    California State University-San Marcos Admissions

As with all members of the California State University system, Cal State San Marcos requires a set core of college preparatory curriculum prior to admission, including four years of English, three years of mathematics, two years each of history, laboratory science, and foreign language, and one year each of arts and electives. While completion of this core curriculum does not guarantee admission to Cal State San Marcos, it is a principal requirement for admission. Applicants must have a high school grade point average of at least 2.0 to be considered for admission. Those students with a grade point average of 3.0 or more are not required to submit standardized test scores. Cal State San Marcos also subscribes to the “eligibility index” used by the other institutions in the Cal State system. This index determines an applicant’s eligibility for admission through a combination of grade point average and score from either the ACT or the SAT. The eligibility index can be calculated in one of two ways: multiplying the applicant’s grade point average by 800 and adding it to the SAT score, or multiplying grade point average by 200 and adding ten times the ACT score. Out-of-state applicants must have an index of 3502 for the SAT or 842 for the ACT. California residents must have an index of 2900 for the SAT or 694 for the ACT.
